Saffrons Amazing Health Benefits

Saffron, a spice derived from the flower of the Crocus sativus plant, has been used for centuries for its unique flavor and medicinal properties. I have been using it recently as a tea, combined with a yummy ceremonial matcha, a packet of stevia, and some cream in the morning as a coffee substitute.

Here are some potential health benefits associated with saffron:

  1. May improve mood: Saffron has been shown to have antidepressant properties and may be beneficial in treating mild to moderate depression.
  2. May help with PMS symptoms: Research suggests that saffron may help alleviate symptoms of premenstrual syndrome (PMS), such as mood swings, irritability, and anxiety.
  3. May have anti-inflammatory properties: Saffron contains compounds that may have anti-inflammatory effects in the body, which could potentially reduce the risk of chronic diseases such as heart disease and diabetes.
  4. May improve vision: Saffron has been traditionally used to improve vision, and some studies suggest that it may be beneficial in treating age-related macular degeneration, a leading cause of blindness in older adults.
  5. May have anticancer properties: Some studies have shown that saffron may have anticancer properties and may help inhibit the growth of cancer cells.
  6. May help with weight loss: Saffron may help suppress appetite and reduce cravings, which could potentially aid in weight loss.

In addition to these six benefits, our chief scientist officer, Dr. John Gildea, used saffron as a means of improving the oxygen-carrying capacity of red blood cells when his wife had breast cancer. He would take at least three stamens of the flower and place them in a small amount of ethanol to make the good chemical more soluble.

With this benefit in mind, there are serval pharmaceutical companies, including one here in Charlottesville, trying to harness the power of saffron for stroke victims.  Given the acceleration in technology we’re currently witnessing, it’s feasible to believe we’ll see this application in mainstream medicine in this generation. Regardless, throw a few saffron stamens in your warm drink of choice daily.

I get this brand from Amazon.  It's seemingly expensive. However, it's the most economical per gram, and it will last you years.

First of all, that bottle of saffron in the picture is probably worth more than my car!

Second, thanks for the suggestion. My morning drink is matcha, cCordyceps and Lion’s Mane mushroom powders, MCT powder, and stevia. But I’m going to try adding some saffron now.

Could you list 1 or 2 company names that sell a good saffron? Too many weak or fake saffron products.
Would really help us when you write an article, to list some names to make the article more complete & helpful. Keep up the good work. Shaun
