This is one of those before-and-after moments. You will go on to tell the story of the day you heard of bone broth hot chocolate and almost decided not to try it. But you've heard so much about the benefits of bone broth and thought this might be the sneaky way to finally get it into your kids. And then, if you're like me, you'll take a sip of your kids' mug and have it twice a day from now on. Bon appétit!
BONE BROTH:
We all know how deeply healing bone broth is for the gut. If you need a refresher, here you go. Of course, the source matters. In this recipe, I'm using Perfect Supplements, but I've also made this with several other free-range, grass-fed, organic bone broth sources. You can also make your own! If you do this and the intent is to use it for hot chocolate, I recommend going a bit easier on the stronger flavors.
CACAO:
According to this study (and many others!), cacao exhibits regulatory effects on immune cells involved in innate and acquired immunity. Cocoa has also consistently demonstrated an ability to increase serum antioxidant status and enhance apoptosis of cancer cells, thus theoretically reducing cancer risk. There is some evidence to suggest that incorporating moderate amounts of cocoa into one's diet could provide a natural and enjoyable way to boost the body's own regenerative capabilities.
Ingredients:
1 scoop of powdered bone broth OR one serving of liquid bone broth
1 Tbsp 100% organic Navitas Cacao
1 pinch of Redmond's Real Salt
10-20 drops of Trace Minerals
Maple syrup or Stevia to taste
Optional: raw milk, ghee, or nut milk of your choice
(you can add a dash of cinnamon or a drop of peppermint to change up the flavor!)
Directions:
Add the powder to the bottom of your mug and add a small amount of hot water. Using a milk frother, blend well. Then add your other ingredients, blending well. Fill to the desired level with more hot water and then top off with milk if you wish. Surprisingly, this becomes almost creamy/frothy even without milk, but it adds some good fat and calories, which is great if you're eating this for breakfast like we do.
