Broccoli Seeds Frequently Asked Questions

Here are some answers to the most frequently asked questions we get about our Broccoli Seeds.

Why should I sprout broccoli seeds? img img

Sprouting broccoli seeds is an affordable way to source glucoraphanin, which is the precursor to Sulforaphane. When the sprouts are metastasized (chewed), the enzyme myrosinase converts glucoraphanin into sulforaphane (glucoraphanin + myrosinase → sulforaphane). We suggest sprouting broccoli seeds alongside radish seeds, which contain the enzyme myrosinase.

Can I sprout broccoli seeds with radish seeds? img img

Yes! We highly recommend sprouting broccoli seeds and radish seeds. You can sprout them separately but eat them together. Broccoli seeds contain glucoraphanin, the precursor to sulforaphane, and radish seeds contain myrosinase, the enzyme necessary for conversion (glucoraphanin + myrosinase → sulforaphane). Make sure to masticate (chew) the sprouts for proper conversion. We recommend sprouting 1 tablespoon of radish seed for every 4 tablespoons of broccoli seed.

What is the difference between broccoli seeds and BrocElite Plus®? img img

Our broccoli seeds contain a reliable source of glucoraphanin, which can be converted to sulforaphane. Sprouts are a good way to receive glucoraphanin, but they must interact with an enzyme in order to turn into sulforaphane (glucoraphanin + myrosinase --> sulforaphane). Whereas BrocElite® contains  pure, naturally derived Stabilized Sulforaphane right in the capsule. To learn more about the differences between sprouting versus supplements, check out this article.

Why do you offer broccoli seeds? img img

We offer the ease and affordability of sprouting because we care about and believe in making sulforaphane accessible to all. These seeds are high quality and have been tested to verify that they contain glucoraphanin, the precursor to sulforaphane. (Many seeds on the market do not contain adequate levels.)

Are your seeds organic? img img

Our broccoli seeds are non-GMO, no spray, and glyphosate-free (very important to us), however, they are not certified organic. We haven't been able to find a national source of certified organic seeds that contain glucoraphanin, the precursor to sulforaphane. We test all our small batches to ensure that the seeds contain glucoraphanin, since many broccoli seeds do not contain sufficient levels
