Benefits Of Dry January

Dry January is a month-long commitment to abstaining from alcohol.  It has become increasingly popular over the years because its offer of numerous benefits that impact physical health, mental well-being, and overall lifestyle.

So, what are these benefits?

First, stopping alcohol consumption for a month will help improve your liver function and detox by reducing strain on the liver and giving it time to repair and regenerate.  It an lead to decreased liver fat, improving long-term liver health.

Since BrocElite can help with this detoxification, we're offering 20% off using code January20.

Second, alcohol disrupts the sleep cycle, particularly REM sleep. If you have a wearable biometric device like a Fitbit or an Oura ring, you have likely seen that abstaining often results in an improvement in all stages of sleep, including deep sleep.  Another biometric that improves with no alcohol is heart rate variability, which is a indicator of cardiovascular health as well as mortality risk.

The end of the holidays can likely mean having a few extra pounds from celebrating. Many people are looking to lose weight.  Cutting out alcohol eliminates empty calories and may reduce cravings for unhealthy foods often associated with drinking, and is an “easy” way to shed unwanted pounds.

Lastly, alcohol can raise blood pressure over time; taking a break helps to lower it, reducing the risk of cardiovascular disease.

Alcohol substitutes that I've found not only helpful, but enjoyable include the following:

Fever-Tree tonic water.  I enjoy a good gin and tonic.  I like the taste.  Most tonic water uses high fructose corn syrup, which is really bad.  But I've discoverd that Fever-Tree tonic water (I like the elderflower) with a bit of lime really scratches my itch without the gin.

Ketonaid hard ketones.  They are from Virginia too and I've talk to the owner.  He's created a Ketohol which provide a buzz for some people without the side effects of alcohol.  They recently changed the formula and use an arftificial sweetener, but you could email and see if they have any of the older formula left.

Little Saints is Lion’s Mane mushroom extract-based mocktail that is probably my favorite.  Many people get a buzz from Lion's Mane extract, but above that, these are just very tasty, is a worthy substitute.  The St Ember somehow provides a kick at the end which I really like.  I'm not a fan of the St Juniper.

Overall, Dry January is a good idea.  Who is up for trying it with me?
