I've had numerous discussions over the last week on the use of TENS to improve sleep. In this episode, which was originally posted in October 2022, Dr. John Gildea shares a sleep tip that has helped him in his long Covid recovery.
Listen in as he describes how to stimulate the vagus nerve, which controls the "rest and digestion" part of our nervous system called the parasympatheic nervous system. John has seen his resting heart rate improve by 12% and his deep sleep increase from minutes a night to hours.
We like the TruVaga for a streamlined, FDA approved, effective, and user friendly option. Several of us here at Mara Labs own this device, use it daily, and have seen huge gains. Definitely helps sleep and overall nervous system health. You'll likely see a marked improvement in HRV as well. While the tens unit below is a cheaper option, it takes about an hour per day whereas TruVaga takes 2 minutes. Code ML30 for $30 off.
- Three times a day for 20 minutes (around meals).
- Not before bed.
- This is the TENS unit I used at first.
- The ear clips that work with the TENS unit.
- Use the LEFT EAR (not the right ear).
- Set pulse width between 150 and 200 microseconds.
- Set frequency between 15 and 30 hertz. Adjust Hz setting by 5 every few weeks.
